GREENWOOD, Ind. – In the month of November, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2024 Academic All-District® recipients for the sport of women's soccer, recognizing the student-athletes success on the field and in the classroom. For the first time in program history Black Hills State has individuals recognized as they saw the maximum number of six receive accolades, including
Rylee Barnes,
Makayla Dannelly,
Whitney Hansen,
Ainsley Wilson,
Makayla Selensky, and
Hailey Warren.
Barnes appeared in 17 games while making three starts and tallying 609 minutes of playing time. The Kalispell, Montana, native helped the defense post three shutouts on the year, the second most in a season in program history, and helped notch the best single game defensive performance in school history against Minnesota Crookston. Against UMC she saw 35 minutes of action as the Yellow Jacket defense allowed just three shot attempts and one shot on goal from the Golden Eagles, the fewest in BHSU history. She also played 26 minutes and helped the BHSU back line allow only one goal against No. 1 Colorado School of Mines, who has currently advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, as it was one of just two regular season contests when CSM was held to one goal and resulted in a 1-1 draw for the only tie or loss for the South Central Region Champions. Barnes has also earned a spot on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll this fall as she has accumulated a 4.00 GPA as an elementary education major.
Dannelly appeared in and started 14 games in goal for Black Hills State, tallying 1,211 minutes of playing time. The Broomfield, Colorado, native secured one solo shutout against Carroll in the season-opener while also combining for one against New Mexico Highlands. She posted a .714 save percentage and 2.68 goals against average as she collected 90 saves, averaging 6.4 saves per match. She ranked second in the RMAC in saves per game and third in total saves, while also ranking 31
st and 45
th in NCAA Division II respectively in those categories. She recorded five or more saves on 12 occasions, and twice notched a season-high of ten in matches against No. 20 Washburn and No. 1 Colorado School of Mines. The one goal allowed against the Orediggers, who have currently advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, was one of just two regular season contests when CSM was held to one goal and resulted in a 1-1 draw for the only tie or loss in the regular season for the South Central Region Champions. Dannelly has also earned a spot on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll this fall as she has accumulated a 4.00 GPA as a biology major.
Hansen appeared in all 18 games this season while making 17 starts, tallying the third most minutes on the team with 1,395 minutes of playing time. The Lander, Wyoming, native posted 15 shot attempts with five shots landing on target. On four occasions she recorded multiple shot attempts in a game, including a season-high of three in a draw with Minnesota Crookston. In the match-up with the Golden Eagles she helped the Yellow Jackets record the largest positive shot differential in program history as BHSU tallied a season-high of 23 while the defense limited UMC to just three in the contest. In the classroom Hansen has accumulated a 4.00 GPA as a biology and chemistry major.
Wilson was one of just two Yellow Jackets to appear and start in all 18 games this season, tallying 1,553 minutes, the second most minutes on the team. The Loveland, Colorado, native was a part of a back line defense that posted three shutouts on the year, the second most in a season in program history, and helped notch the best single game defensive performance in school history against Minnesota Crookston. When Black Hills State secured the shutout against UMC, Wilson played the full 90 minutes as they held the Golden Eagles to the fewest shot attempts (3) and shots on goal (1) in a single match. Wilson has also earned awards such as First Team Academic All-RMAC, RMAC Academic Honor Roll, and Honorable Mention All-RMAC. In the classroom she has accumulated a 4.00 GPA as a biology and chemistry major.
Selensky appeared in 17 games this season while making ten starts, tallying 717 minutes of playing time for Black Hills State. The Fargo, North Dakota, native recorded a pair of assists for two points for the Yellow Jackets this year, along with posting six shot attempts with two landing on target. Her first career assist occurred in BHSU's dominating 5-0 win over New Mexico Highlands, marking the largest margin of victory in program history in an RMAC contest. Then just a week later she notched her second assist of the year in a match-up at UCCS. She recorded a season-high of two shot attempts in two games during the year, occurring in matches against UCCS and Regis. Selensky has also earned a spot on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll as she has accumulated a 3.86 GPA as an exercise science major.
Warren appeared in 17 games while making 16 starts, tallying 1,072 minutes of playing time for the Yellow Jackets. The Pleasant Grove, Utah, native led Black Hills State in both shot attempts (31) and shots on goal (16) during the season. In ten contests during the year she notched multiple shot attempts, including a pair of 4-shot performances in BHSU victories over New Mexico Highlands and Western Colorado. Additionally, there were four matches where she was able to place multiple shot attempts on target, twice tallying a season-high of three in games against NMHU and Westminster. Warren has also earned a spot on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll as she has accumulated a 3.86 GPA as a graphic design major.
School's athletic communication staffs are allowed to nominate up to six student-athletes for a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® list. To be eligible individuals must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 in their academic career and compete in 90 percent of the institution's matches played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's matches.
