Golf Concludes Regular Season Slate in Nebraska

Lola Homiston led the BHSU squad with a 176 (+32) at the final regular season tournament

WAYNE, Neb. – Due to thunderstorms that moved through on the scheduled second day of the Wildcat Classic, the meet was moved to a one-day 36-hole event at Wayne Country Club, hosted by Wayne State College as the Yellow Jackets wrapped up their regular season slate for the 2023-24 season.

"The team really had to battle from start to finish on Monday. Switching from 18 holes in one day to 36 holes is a tough ask in itself," noted head golf coach Randy Doran. "Adding in the weather conditions with a constant wind over 30mph made really made for a tough day of competition. I am proud that we were able to show some endurance and fortitude by shooting eight strokes lower in our second round."

ROUND 1
Weather forced the action into a condensed one-day affair, adding adversity to the final regular season meet. Lola Homiston (So., Dickinson, N.D.) paced the Yellow Jackets with an 87 in the opening round of the tournament, which proved to be the team's best round.

ROUND 2
The second round saw general improvement as a team, as three Yellow Jackets recorded rounds under 90. Joining Homiston in that would be Katie Jorgenson (So., Sheridan, Wyo.) with an 88 and Anna Talarico (Jr., Joliet, Ill.) with an 89.

The Vikings of Augustana University (S.D.) took the team title at the event, shooting a two-round team score of 607 (+31), winning by 16 strokes. Black Hills State finished 14th in the field of 14 teams at the event with a team score of 726 (+150).

"As our final contest before the conference tournament, this meet my main focus was having our players get more comfortable around the green with their short game and reading greens at an unfamiliar course. All things that will be important for us to perform well at the RMAC Championships," concluded Doran. "The weather conditions is what it is, and it rattled our confidence a little bit, the day prior in the practice round was some of the best golf our players have had from tee to green, which has me excited for us to put everything together at the conference meet this weekend."
