AMES, Iowa – The Black Hills State University rodeo team traveled to Ames, Iowa this past weekend to compete in the 2024 Cyclone Stampede, hosted by Iowa State University at the Hanson Agricultural Learning Center. BHSU had a great weekend of competition with both the men and women coming home with team titles.
Haven Jones (Sr., Twin Falls, Idaho) brought home the women's All-Around title for the stampede. She won the barrel racing event and had a second-place finish in the goat tying. Teammate
Riley Donnelly (Sr., Elk Point, S.D.) won the reserve All-Around with a tied-for-third-place finish in the goat tying with BHSU's
Cashae McGee (Gr., Rhame, N.D.). Donnelly also was fourth in the long go of the breakaway roping.
Other top finishers for the Yellow Jackets in the breakaway roping included
Tessa Caspers (Jr., New Underwood, S.D.) in second-place;
Emma Ohm (So., Hyannis, Neb.) in fourth-place;
Sydney Theobald (Gr., Ft. Pierre, S.D.) in fifth-place, and
Jaycee Wooters (Gr., Elwood, Neb.) sixth-place.
Jayme Peterson (Sr., Belle Fourche, S.D.) placed sixth in the long go of the breakaway and in the barrel racing
Katelyn Eisenbeis (Jr., Mandan, N.D.) had a fifth-place finish.
On the BHSU men's side,
Riley Staton brought home the reserve All-Around title, as well as the Tie Down Roping and Heeling Championships.
Treg Thorstenson teamed up with
Jess Harper (Fr., Faith, S.D.) to place second in the team roping. Thorstenson also won the long go of the tie down roping.
Other placings for the BHSU men included:
Luke Mavity was third in the team roping and
Swade Reis (Fr., Chamberlain, S.D.) also placed fifth in the tie down.
