Black Hills State Women’s Golf Shatters School Record in Swan Memorial

BROOMFIELD, Colo. – A day removed from posting the second-best single round score as a team in program history, the Black Hills State University women's golf program followed up with another stellar performance on Tuesday at the Swan Memorial at The Broadlands Golf Course. In round two the Yellow Jackets were just one stroke shy of matching yesterday's mark as they posted a score of 327 (+39) to total a school record 36-hole score of 653 (+77). BHSU's school-record was 12 strokes better than the previous program best, and 45 strokes better than last season's 36-hole team best.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Matching her score of 80 (+8) once again in round two, Katie Jorgenson totaled a 36-hole score of 160 (+16), which ties for seventh all-time in the BHSU record books. Over the course of today's round, she tallied scores of par on nine holes and added a birdie on the 16th hole.
  • Finishing the tournament second among Yellow Jacket golfers was freshman Leyni Stavola, who completed her collegiate debut with a second round score of 85 (+13) for a 36-hole total of 166 (+22). She recorded scores of par on six holes during the day and added a birdie on the 15th hole.
  • Olivia McCandless once again shot well below her 2023-24 stroke average today, as she was 12 strokes better and ended the tournament with a career-best 36-hole total of 167 (+23). During round two she collected scores of par on eight of the 18 holes.
  • Ava Kalanek matched her round one mark of 84 (+12) again on day two at The Broadlands Golf Course, bringing her 36-hole total to 168 (+24). She scored par on seven holes during the day and added a birdie on the fifth hole.
  • Rounding out the team lineup with a 36-hole score of 169 (+25) in her freshman debut was Makaela Swanson, who carded the lowest individual round by a Yellow Jacket this week and tied for the tenth best single round in program history with a 78 (+6) today. She notched 12 scores of par throughout round two and added a birdie on the 15th hole.
