Yellow Jackets Set to Host Black Hills State Classic

SPEARFISH, S.D. – It will be the first time since the fall of 2020 that the Black Hills State women's golf team will be hosting a home event as they will host the Black Hills State Classic on Monday and Tuesday. In addition to being the first tournament in four years, it will also be the largest tournament field in a BHSU hosted event as 39 players from six different teams will take to the course at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.

BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES
  • After starting the season with the best 36-hole score in program history, 653 (+77), to go along with a pair of top-3 low round scores in school history at the Swan Memorial, the Yellow Jackets then went on to post their top team finish of the year. Black Hills State is coming off a tie for fifth place at the Hardrocker Fall Invite where they notched a 36-hole score of 681 (+105) at The Golf Club at Red Rock.
  • Katie Jorgenson has been the top individual for Black Hills State in both of their two tournaments to start the season, averaging an 80.75 stroke average. She has posted a low round score of 80 (+8) twice at the Swan Memorial that resulted in a low 36-hole score of 160 (+16) that tied for seventh-best all-time in school history.
  • Leyni Stavola has started her Yellow Jacket career by averaging an 85.25 stroke average through two tournaments this season. She posted a low round score of 81 (+9) at the Swan Memorial that added to a low 36-hole total of 166 (+22) in the opening tournament of the year.
  • Ava Kalanek holds the third best stroke average this season at 85.5 per round through two tournaments. She has posted a low round score of 84 (+12) twice this season, both occurring at the Swan Memorial which totaled to a low 36-hole score of 168 (+24) during the opening week of action as well.
  • Makaela Swanson has posted a season stroke average of 87.0 through two tournaments thus far to begin her collegiate career. She posted a low round score of 78 (+6) at the Swan Memorial, which also tied for tenth in the all-time record books for 18-hole scores. The single round helped for a low 36-hole score this season that also occurred at the Swan Memorial, a 169 (+25).
  • Rounding out the team lineup will be Olivia McCandless has averaged an 88.25 stroke average this season through two tournaments. She shattered her previous low round score by 17 strokes with an 81 (+9) at the Swan Memorial which added to a low 36-hole score of 167 (+23) in the first tournament of the year.
  • Cami Langley, one of three Yellow Jacket individuals playing in the tournament, is the only one to have played in both tournaments so far this season. She has recorded a season stroke average of 91.0, to go along with a low round of 83 (+11) and a low 36-hole score of 173 (+29) that both took place at the Swan Memorial.
  • Lola Homiston and Jessica Folchert will round out the group of individuals playing at the Spearfish Canyon Golf Course as they will both be playing in their second tournament of the season. Homiston carded a 182 (+38) at the Hardrocker Fall Invite and recorded a low round score of 86 (+14) during the tournament. Folchert notched a 36-hole score of 203 (+59) at the Hardrocker Fall Invite and recorded a low round score of 101 (+29) in the tournament.
  • Randy Doran is in his first year officially as the head coach for Black Hills State, after serving as interim head coach a year ago.
