SPEARFISH, S.D. – The inaugural Black Hills State Classic came to a close on Tuesday afternoon at the Spearfish Canyon Country Club with the host Yellow Jackets carding a second round score of 344 (+56) for a 36-hole total of 681 (+105) and fourth place. BHSU saw a trio of athletes finish among the top-15, headlined by
Katie Jorgenson recording a career-best finish of third place with a 2-day score of 161 (+17). Also among the top-15 for the Green & Gold were a pair of freshman as
Leyni Stavola and
Makaela Swanson tied for 11
th with scores of 170 (+26).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carding the lowest round by a Yellow Jacket on day two of the Black Hills State Classic was Katie Jorgenson who notched a second round score of 82 (+10) and finished the 36-hole tournament with a score of 161 (+17) for third place on the player leaderboard. During the final 18-holes of golf she scored par on ten holes.
- Leyni Stavola saw a two stroke improvement from day one to day two at the Spearfish Canyon Country Club, posting a second round total of 84 (+12) to finish the event with a score of 170 (+26) and tie for 11th on the player leaderboard. During Tuesday's round she notched scores of par on seven holes and added a birdie on the ninth hole.
- Makaela Swanson completed the Black Hills State Classic with a 36-hole score of 170 (+26) for a tie for 11th on the player leaderboard, following a final round score of 86 (+14). During the second round of play she scored par on eight holes.
- Fourth in the BHSU team lineup was Ava Kalanek, as a second round score of 92 (+20) brought her 2-day total to 180 (+36). During Tuesday's round at the Spearfish Canyon Golf Club, she tallied five scores of par to go along with a birdie on the 13th hole.
- The highest finishing Black Hills State individual during the home tournament was Lola Homiston, who carded a 97 (+25) on Tuesday for a 36-hole total of 184 (+40) and 28th place. During the final round of action she scored par on three holes.
- Making the largest day one to day two jump on the player leaderboard for Black Hills State golfers was Cami Langley, who's second round score of 85 (+13) completed a 15-stroke improvement for a 2-day total of 185 (+41) that tied for 29th place. During Tuesday's round she totaled nine scores of par.
- Rounding out the trio of individuals was Jessica Folchert, who saw an 8-stroke improvement from round one to round two as she carded a season-low round of 89 (+17) for a season-low 36-hole score of 186 (+42) and 32nd place. During the second round of action on Tuesday she collected six scores of par and added a birdie on the 13th hole.
- Rounding out the team lineup for Black Hills State was Olivia McCandless who posted a second round score of 103 (+31) to bring her total for the tournament to 197 (+53) as she tied for 35th. During the final 18 holes of play she carded scores of par on two holes.

UP NEXT
The Yellow Jackets will return to the course once again next week as they travel north to Bismarck, North Dakota, to take part in the Marauder Golf Invite. Both round one and round two will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 30, and Tuesday, October 1, at the Hawktree Golf Club.
