Yellow Jacket Rodeo Set to Compete at Blue Hawk Invitational

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University rodeo team will look to continue a strong start to the 2024-25 season as they travel to the Blue Hawk Invitational, hosted by Dickinson State University. The BHSU women look for their fourth consecutive team title while the men look for another top-5 mark. The action will take place on Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28, at the Stark County Fairgrounds & Events Park in Dickinson, North Dakota,

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State men's rodeo team is coming off their best finish of the year as they turned in a fourth place finish in rodeo #1 at the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo.
  • In steer wrestling, Gabe Glines recorded a third place finish at rodeo #1 in North Platte.
  • Luke Mavity has notched three top-10 finishes in tie down roping this year, including a season-best finish of second place in River Falls to begin the year.
  • Jess Harper collected the lone event victory of the season for the Yellow Jackets as he teamed up with Colton Zubach of Dickinson State for the title in team roping at Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #2.
  • Swade Reis has placed once this season, earning a tenth place mark in tie down roping in the second rodeo in North Platte.
  • Glen Lammers is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN'S RODEO STORYLINES
  • The Black Hills State women's program has won their first three rodeos of the 2024-25 season, winning the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo as well as the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 and #2.
  • Emma Ohm and Cashae McGee have earned All-Around Women's Championships this year, winning the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo #1 and #2 respectively.
  • Ohm has won breakaway roping events on two occasions this year, winning in River Falls as well as rodeo #1 in North Platte.
  • McGee earned a victory in goat tying in the second rodeo of the Mid-Plains College Stampede Rodeo.
  • Glen Lammers enters his 17th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men's and women's rodeo program.
