Yellow Jackets Return Home to Face No. 9 Orediggers

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women’s soccer team will play their first home RMAC match of the season on Friday afternoon as they welcome No. 9 Colorado School of Mines to the Black Hills Power Sports Complex. The Yellow Jackets will look to remain unbeaten at home on the year, putting their 2-0 record to the test as face the Orediggers who will look to remain unbeaten in league play.

  • Black Hills State enters the contest with a record of 4-2-2 (1-1-0 RMAC) following a 2-1 loss at Adams State last Sunday afternoon.
  • Last Friday the Yellow Jackets come from behind 2-1 win at New Mexico Highlands marked their first win in an RMAC opener since 2023. The fourth win on the year also broke the school single-season record and notched the best start to a season in program history. The win marked the final of a 3-game win streak, which marked the longest in program history.
  • With wins over Dakota State (4-0) and Montana State Billings (1-0), the Green & Gold improved to 2-0 at home for the first time in program history. The win over the DSU notched the first-ever home opening victory in program history, and the win over MSUB marked the first-ever win over the Yellowjackets in six tries.
  • The opening weekend of the 2025 season was just the second time in program history in which the Green & Gold finished undefeated in the opening week of play, drawing at MSU Moorhead (0-0) and defeating Minnesota Crookston (4-1). In 2023 they also went unbeaten on opening weekend, defeating Dakota Wesleyan (6-0) and Mount Marty (5-0). 
  • The Yellow Jackets five assists against the Golden Eagles on opening weekend matched the program single game record which was set last fall against New Mexico Highlands.
  • BHSU has scored four goals twice this season, each time with four different players against UMC and DSU.
  • After being in the hunt to make the conference tournament last season, the Yellow Jackets have been picked to finish 11th in the RMAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
  • Through eight games this season Black Hills State has recorded 12 goals, ten assists, 34 points, 135 shots, 51 shots on goal, 45 corner kicks and 27 saves, while on the other hand their opponents have notched five goals, five assists, 15 points, 62 shots, 32 shots on goal, 25 corner kicks, and 39 saves.
  • BHSU currently leads the RMAC in corner kicks per game (5.63) and shots per game (16.88).
  • In 2024 the Yellow Jackets broke the school single-season record for points (51), goals (18), and assists (15).
  • This year the BHSU defense has already forced four shutouts, matching the school single-season record, as they have held opponents to just 7.8 shot attempts and 4.0 shots-on-goal per game.
  • Eight different players scored a goal for the Yellow Jackets this season, including Peyton Hill (4), Leah Day (2), Ella Cornelius (1), Ally Boysen (1), Audrey Sillanpaa (1), Whitney Hansen (1), Jayda Hammer (1), and Kayla Truong (1).
  • Additionally, seven different players have notched an assist this season for the Green & Gold, including Aubri Roth, Cornelius, and Hill who lead the team with two apiece.
  • Hill currently leads the team with ten points on the year by way of her four goals and two assists. She is the only player on the team with both multiple goals and assists this season.
  • Cornelius and Hill each recorded both a goal and an assist against UMC, while Day notched a goal and an assist against DSU. After happening only once prior to head coach John Hutchison’s arrival, the match against the Golden Eagles marked the fourth time under his watch that multiple players have recorded both a goal and assist in the same match.
  • Through eight matches, 2024 Honorable Mention All-RMAC selection, Ainsley Wilson leads the team with 711 minutes played on the field, while Bria Sargent has also played 689 minutes on the back line of the defense.
  • Rian Barthel has made five starts in goal, while Karsyn Fraser-Slothower has made three, each playing the entirety of their matches. Barthel has tied the school single-season record of three shutouts on the year, which includes becoming the first freshman to post a shutout in a season opener in program history. She holds a 0.870 save percentage and a 0.60 goals-against average with 20 saves. Fraser-Slothower kept Northwestern Oklahoma State off the scoreboard for the first time this season earlier this year as she has tallied an 0.778 save percentage and a 0.67 goals-against average with seven saves.
  • 2025 marks the first time in program history that two or more goalkeepers have notched multiple wins in a season.
  • John Hutchison is in his third season as the head coach at Black Hills State, guiding the Yellow Jackets to a record of 10-25-8. Overall, 2025 is his seventh season as a collegiate women’s soccer head coach with a career mark of 21-68-16 after spending four prior seasons at Presentation College.
  • Colorado School of Mines brings a 4-1-1 (1-0-0 RMAC) record into Friday afternoon’s match-up following a 1-0 victory over Fort Lewis in their conference opener last week Sunday.
  • The Orediggers have faced three teams ranked or receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches’ Top-25 thus far on the year, holding a 2-0-1 mark, defeating No. 18 Angelo State (1-0) and (RV) Western Washington (3-2), while they battled to a draw against No. 20 Seattle Pacific (2-2).
  • After going 20-1-2 (11-0-1 RMAC) and advancing to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, Colorado School of Mines has been picked to repeat as the league champions, holding down the top spot in the preseason coaches’ poll.
  • Through six games Mines has recorded 11 goals, 9 assists, 31 points, 67 shots, 22 shots-on-goal, 25 corner kicks, and 27 saves, while on the other hand their opponents have notched seven goals, three assist, 17 points, 91 shots, 34 shots-on-goal, 30 corner kicks, and 11 saves.
  • Bella Campos, the 2024 Co-RMAC Player of the Year, leads the Orediggers with six goals on the season and adds a pair of assists for a team-best 14 points. On two occasions against Lubbock Christian and Seattle Pacific she found the back of the net twice. She ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in goals per game (1.00), ninth in points per game (2.33), 17th in total goals (6), and 25th in points (14).
  • Kaitlyn Manalili leads CSM with three assists on the year, including assisting on two goals against LCU.
  • Defenders Callie Fuhr, Natalie Rouse, and Jolie Jiricek lead the Oredigger back line, having played all 540 minutes thus far in 2025. They have been a part of two shutouts and have helped limit opponents to just 5.7 shots-on-goal per game. Both Fuhr and Rouse have scored one goal apiece this year.
  • Allie Lundgren has secured a pair of shutouts for the Orediggers in goal, making 27 saves while recording a 0.794 save percentage and a 1.20 goals-against average. She made a season-high six saves against Western Washington.
  • Kevin Fickes is in his 16th season as the head coach of Colorado School of Mines, guiding the Orediggers to a 248-43-41 record during his tenure. The 2024 CSM team was the second to reach the 20-win mark with Fickes at the helm.
  • Friday will mark the tenth all-time meeting on the pitch between Black Hills State and Colorado School of Mines, with the Orediggers holding an 8-0-1 advantage.
  • The Yellow Jackets shocked the Orediggers a year ago, playing to a 1-1 draw at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex on October 4, 2024, as CSM played their first-ever game as the No. 1 team in the nation.
  • The draw against BHSU was Mines’ lone loss or tie during the regular season in 2024.
