BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES
  • The Yellow Jackets enter the Homestake Invite coming off a week off after a sixth-place finish at the Homestake Invite in their home tournament where Katie Jorgenson and Abbi Beld put up solid scores. In the first tournament of the year, the Swan Memorial, they shot their second lowest 36-hole score in program history with a 655 (+79). They shot two top ten 18-hole rounds in program history with a 328 (+40), and 327 (+39) on each of the two rounds. The Yellow Jackets will look to get back on track in Billings
  • Last year, the Yellow Jackets lit up Lake Hills Golf Course with their second-round score breaking the record for the lowest single-round team score in program history with a 320 (+32). They also put up a 36-hole team score that sits third all-time in program history with a 661 (+85). That round both Makaela Swanson and Ava Kalanek broke 80 with a 79 (+7) and Jorgenson shot an 80 (+8). Swanson shot a 161 (+17) in the tournament.
  • BHSU was picked to finish 10th in the RMAC in the RMAC Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll finishing ahead of Adams State and just behind rivals Chadron State and South Dakota Mines.
  • Katie Jorgenson is back as the one for the Yellow Jackets. She had her best tournament of the season in Spearfish shooting a 167 (+23) over the two days and finishing 18th in the Homestake Invite. She shot a 83 and an 84 over the two days which were the two best rounds of the tournament by any Yellow Jacket.
  • Shelbi Gardner is continuing one of the best starts in BHSU history. She led the team with a 165 (+21) over the two days at the Travis Roy Memorial Invite and shot her second round in the 70s this season with a 79 on day one in Sheridan. This came a week after she shot 77 (+5) on day one of the Swan Memorial, which was tied for the seventh best round in BHSU history and the second best by a freshman. She then finished by shooting 82 (+10) on day two to score a 159 (+15) for a 36-hole score that would put her tied for sixth all time in BHSU history and the best 36-hole score by a freshman in program history. At the Spearfish tournament, she bounced back in round two to shoot an 86 (+14) and put her in a tie for 28th and third on the team.
  • Abbi Beld is coming off an impressive 170 (+26) at Spearfish that put her top 25 in the tournament. She will be trying to continue her solid year so far in Billings, including an 83 (+11) in the first round of the Swan Memorial before she withdrew on the second day. She was off to a brilliant start shooting a 40 (+4) on the front nine in her only round and still shot a great 18-hole score with only one hole worse than bogey.
  • Makaela Swanson shot 169 (+25) at the Travis Roy Memorial Invite this past week that included an 82 (+10) on day two of the tourney. She had a strong finish at the Swan Memorial as well where she finished in a tie for 49th place with a 164 (+20) and had a team-low 79 (+7) in round two. She will now head to the tournament she lit up last year, nearly missing the top 10 36-hole score list by one stroke when she shot a 161 (+17) in this tourney.
  • Leyni Stavola is looking to bounce back in Billings after she shot a 196 (+52) in the Homestake Invite. Stavola broke 90 on both days at Billings last year and will look to keep that up this coming week. She tied her career-low 18-hole score at the Swan Memorial when she shot a 79 on day two.
  • Savanah Peterson, a freshman walk-on, is coming off of her BHSU debut, where she shot 187 (+43) with a 92 (+20) on day two. She will be competing in her second tournament of her career this week and first one away from home. She will be an individual but will be looking to set career laws.
  • Randy Doran is now in his second season as head coach at BHSU and is looking to continue breaking records and setting new lows.
