HOW IT HAPPENED
- In an evenly played first half that saw both teams tally four shot attempts, it was Black Hills State who struck first in the seventh minute as they took advantage of a set play off a corner kick. Ainsley Wilson found the back of the net for her first career goal on the play, coming up from her defensive position and getting a header on the ball off the assist from Bria Sargent in the corner.
- It was then moments later that CSU Pueblo evened the score at one apiece in the 11th minute when Jenna Elledge scored her first goal of the season for the ThunderWolves, taking in a pass forward from Mara Ganjje and then outracing a pair of Yellow Jacket defenders and placing the ball into an open net as Karsyn Fraser-Slothower came up and challenged her attack.
- Minutes into the second half, CSUP netted the game-winner off a corner kick set play of their own, with Cameron Farthing's pass connecting with Carlia Johnson, who then headed the ball into the goal in the 49th minute for the 2-1 lead.
- The Yellow Jacket's offensive attack never slowed in the second half as they held a 12-1 advantage in shot attempts in the half, which included shots-on-goal by Peyton Hill in the 48th minute, Katy Vinton and Lawsen Quist in the 58th minute, and Whitney Hansen in the 85th minute. Of the several scoring opportunities, one of the better looks of the afternoon that were not on target was a shot by Leah Day in the 86th minute that went off the top woodwork and was a matter of inches from finding the back of the net.
- Black Hills State held the advantage in shots (16-5), shots-on-goal (5-3), and corner kicks (6-2), while CSU Pueblo held the edge in saves (4-1).
