PUEBLO, COLO. – The Black Hills State University women's golf team started their spring season today in Pueblo at the Southern Colorado Open. BHSU was a little rusty out of the gate as they head into the second round sitting in last place of the 13-team field after shooting a team score of 341 (+53) on day one. They sit only five shots back of Chadron and 12 shots back of South Dakota Mines as Katie Jorgenson and Ava Kalanek both put up solid rounds on the first day of the tournament. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
•    Katie Jorgenson once again led the team today as she posted an 83 (+11) in round one today. She had 11 bogeys and 7 pars today as she finished in 52nd place heading into tomorrow.
•    Ava Kalanek finished only two strokes behind Jorgensen and shot an 85 (+13), she finished in 59th place heading into tomorrow after only having two pars on the round and having three birdies.
•    Olivia McCandless started her round with a par and ended up only shooting one shot below Kalanek for an 86 (+14). She is currently placed 63rd and had one birdie today on hole #5
•    Leyni Stavola was able to put a pretty good round together outside of a couple of rough holes. She shot an 87 (+15) and had seven pars on the day. She currently sits in a tie for 68th.
•    Rounding out the team lineup for the Yellow Jackets was Jessica Folchert, who struggled today posting a score of 101 (+29), she currently sits in a tie for 82nd with a girl from Chadron and had a solid front nine, shooting 46 on the front side with three pars.
•    On the individual trail Anna Talarico put up a 94 (+22) to sit in 79th place in the tournament. She unfortunately had two eights on the first four holes, but was able to have a solid back nine besides that going +3 on the other seven holes of the back nine.
