PUEBLO, COLO. – The Black Hills State University women's golf team finished their first tournament of the Spring. They finished 13th with a 705 (+129). The second day they shot a team score of 364 (+76). Black Hills State had top rounds from
Olivia McCandless and their individual
Anna Talarico, who both shot 90s. Every player on BHSU's team shot better on the back nine than the front nine, and the top four all finished within two strokes of each other on the round.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Olivia McCandless led the team in scoring today with a 90 (+18), which is exactly her season average through eight rounds this year. McCandless only had two holes where she made worse than bogey and started the round +4 thru six holes. She finished tied with Kalenek with a 176 (+32) 36-hole score, which was good enough to put her In a tie for 70th.

Ava Kalanek finished tied with her teammate
Leyni Stavola with a 91 (+19), her 176 (+32) for the tournament put her in a tie with McCandless for 70th place and was her fourth best 36-hole score this year and Kalanek had one of the two birdies for BHSU today. She made a four on the par five 13th hole. She only had three holes worse than bogey, and had one par.

Leyni Stavola was able to put a pretty good round together as well, tying with Kalenek at a 91 (+19). She finished with a 178 (+34) over the 36 holes. This put her in 73rd place for the tournament. The 36-hole score was her fifth best this season and she had five pars in the 18 holes.

Katie Jorgenson finished fourth on the team today with a 92 (+20), but she still led the team in 36 hole score, shooting a 175 (+31). She finished 68th in the tournament. She had the only other birdie on the day for the Yellow Jackets and had four pars with three on the back nine.
• Rounding out the team lineup for the Yellow Jackets was
Jessica Folchert, who shot in the 100s for the second straight day, she shot a 105 (+33) today, but she did have three pars. She shot a 36-hole score of 206 (+62), which put her in 83rd place for the tournament.
• On the individual trail
Anna Talarico put up a pretty solid 90 (+18) today which put her tied for the best score in BHSU's lineup today. She had a 36-hole score of 184 (+40), which tied her season low 36-hole score. The 90 was above her average, and she led the team in pars with seven today.
UP NEXT
BHSU will head down I-90 next week to Rapid City, where they will play in South Dakota Mines' home tournament, the Hardrocker Spring Invite. BHSU will be playing at Arrowhead Country Club in RC as they have just two more tournaments before the RMAC Championships.
