SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State women's golf team looks to bounce back after a rough start to their spring season, where they shot their worst 36-hole score of the year at the Southern Colorado Open in Pueblo last weekend. BHSU will now head to Arrowhead Country Club in Rapid City, S.D., where they will play in the Hardrocker Spring Invite. It is their second to last tournament before the RMAC Championships.

BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES
•   Black Hills State started their Spring campaign at the Southern Colorado Open in Pueblo, Colorado, where they faced numerous other RMAC schools. They struggled shooting a 705 (+129) over the two-day tournament. It was their highest 36-hole score of the season and the +76 over was their second highest 18-hole score only behind the first round at the Marauder Golf Invite, where they shot +81. They finished 13th out of 13 teams.
•   The Yellow Jackets have totaled four of the best single round scores in the program's DII history this fall, recording the best single round score in program history on day two of the Yellowjacket Fall Invite with a 320 (+32). They recorded the third-best score in round one of Swan Memorial with a 326 (+38), the fourth-best score in round two of the Swan Memorial with a 327 (+39), tying for the ninth best score in round two of the Marauder Golf Invite with a 334 (+46), and tying for the 11th-best score in round one of the Black Hills State Classic with a 337 (+49). Additionally, BHSU has notched the program's best DII mark for a 36-hole tournament with a score of 653 (+77) at the Swan Memorial.
•   Following back-to-back career best finishes of third place at the Black Hills State Classic and the Marauder Golf Invite,
Katie Jorgenson continues to be the top golfer in the Yellow Jacket team lineup. She led the team with a 175 (+31) and a 68th place finish at the Southern Colorado Open. She has posted a stroke average of 82.50 through 12 rounds this year and has notched a career-low round score in the first round of the Black Hills State Classic with a 79 (+7). Her career-best 36-hole score of 160 (+16) at this year's Swan Memorial continues to be tied for the seven-best in the school's DII record book. Additionally, she became the first Yellow Jacket to ever be named the RMAC Women's Golfer of the Week earlier this fall on September 26.

Olivia McCandless is the #2 in the lineup this week and she is coming off a week where she finished tied for second on the team with a 176 (+32) and led the team in scoring on day two with a 90 (+18). She has averaged a 90.4 stroke average this year through 10 rounds. She shattered her previous low round score by 17 strokes with an 81 (+9) at the Swan Memorial which added to a low 36-hole score of 167 (+23) in the first tournament of the season.

Leyni Stavola is coming off a fourth-place team finish in Pueblo, where she shot a 178 (+34) over the two rounds. Through 12 rounds this fall season she has posted a stroke average of 87.30, to go along with a career-best round score of 81 (+9) and a 36-hole score of 166 (+22) that occurred in the Swan Memorial to begin the year.

Anna Talarico will make her first "A" team start this season after she posted a 184 (+40) at the SCO. She actually tied McCandless for the low score on day two, where she shot a 90 (+18). A year ago she played 16 rounds for Black Hills State where she recorded a 94.4 stroke average. She held a season-low round score of 85 (+13) at the SMSU Classic and a season-best 36-hole score of 176 (+32) at the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational.

Jessica Folchert will be on the main team lineup for the second time this season after being an individual twice and on the BHSU "B" team at the Yellowjacket Fall Invite. At the Southern Colorado Open in her first attempt to start, she posted a rough 206 (+62). She shot over 100 on both days of the tournament including a 105 (+33) on day 2. This year she has a stroke average of 96.7 through eight rounds and has posted a season-low round of 86 (+14) and a season-best 36-hole score of 178 (+33), which both occurred at the Yellowjacket Fall Invite.

Ava Kalanek will be the individual this week. She finished tied for second with McCandless at the Southern Colorado Open after posting a 36-hole score of 176 (+32). This season she has notched a stroke average of 87.3 through 12 rounds of golf, in which she has recorded a season-low round of 79 (+7) and a season-low 36-hole score of 164 (+20) that all took place at the Yellowjacket Fall Invite.

Randy Doran is in his first year officially as the head coach for Black Hills State, after serving as interim head coach a year ago.
