SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State women's golf team will enter the final tournament of the season heading down to Boulder City, Nevada just outside of Las Vegas and compete in the RMAC Championships. The Yellow Jackets will play the three-day tournament and are coming off a solid showing at the DWU Spring Golf Invite where all three golfers they sent finished in the top 12.

BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES
• Black Hills State ended their regular season campaign strong finishing with a really good team score on day 2 in Rapid City at the Hardrocker Spring Invite and then sent three golfers down to Mitchell, S.D., where they all finished in the top 12 and one finished in the top five. The Yellow Jackets have been playing very well as they have gotten more rounds in them this spring and look to keep that going into the RMAC Championships.
• The Yellow Jackets have totaled four of the best single round scores in the program's DII history this fall, recording the best single round score in program history on day two of the Yellowjacket Fall Invite with a 320 (+32). They recorded the third-best score in round one of Swan Memorial with a 326 (+38), the fourth-best score in round two of the Swan Memorial with a 327 (+39), tying for the ninth best score in round two of the Marauder Golf Invite with a 334 (+46), and tying for the 11th-best score in round one of the Black Hills State Classic with a 337 (+49). Additionally, BHSU has notched the program's best DII mark for a 36-hole tournament with a score of 653 (+77) at the Swan Memorial.

Katie Jorgenson continues to be the top golfer in the Yellow Jacket team lineup. She is coming off a career-best second place finish in Mitchell two weeks ago, where she set her career-low 18-hole score by shooting a 76 (+4) on day one of the tournament. That score was tied for the fifth best 18-hole score in Yellow Jacket history. She has posted a stroke average of 82.70 through 16 rounds this year and has notched a career-low round score in the first round of the DWU Spring Golf Invite with a 76 (+4). Her career-best 36-hole score of 160 (+16) at this year's Swan Memorial continues to be tied for the seven-best in the school's DII record book. Additionally, she became the first Yellow Jacket to ever be named the RMAC Women's Golfer of the Week earlier this fall on September 26.

Ava Kalanek will be in the lineup this weekend. She finished tied for second with McCandless at the Southern Colorado Open after posting a 36-hole score of 176 (+32). This season she has notched a stroke average of 87.3 through 12 rounds of golf, in which she has recorded a season-low round of 79 (+7) and a season-low 36-hole score of 164 (+20) that all took place at the Yellowjacket Fall Invite.

Leyni Stavola is coming off a fantastic tournament in Mitchell, where she set a new career-low 18-hole score by shooting 79 (+7) in the first round of the tournament and ended up finishing in a tie for 11th. She tied her best 36-hole score as well shooting a 166 (+22). Through 16 rounds this fall season she has posted a stroke average of 87.6, to go along with a career-best round score of 79 (+7) and a 36-hole score of 166 (+22) that occurred in the DWU Spring Golf Invite two weekends ago.

Makaela Swanson is back in the lineup after being out the entire spring. She ended her fall with a 16th place finish at the Yellowjacket Fall Invite after shooting a career-low 36-hole score of 161 (+17) with a 79 (+7) on day two. She also had her first career top 10 finish where she earned a tie for seventh place after carding a score of 180 (+36) at the Marauder Golf Invite. In the first ten rounds of the 2024 fall season, she notched a stroke average of 85.50, as well as a career-best round of 78 (+6) in the Swan Memorial and a 36-hole score of 161 (+17) which happened in the Yellowjacket Fall Invite. Her career-best round score which came in round two of the Swan Memorial remains tied for tenth in the BHSU DII record book.

Olivia McCandless is in the lineup this week and she is coming off her another strong performance at the DWU tourney, where she shot an 82 (+10) both days to finish in a tie for ninth. It was the second straight week of finishing in the top 10 after she had the best performance of her career at the Hardrocker Spring Open. She shot 84 (+13) on the first day and a career-low 80 (+9) on day two to finish in third place, which is her best finish of her career. She beat her career-low on 18 and her career-low on 36 with a 164 (+23) She has averaged a 88.2 stroke average this year through 14 rounds.

Randy Doran is in his first year officially as the head coach for Black Hills State, after serving as interim head coach a year ago.
