Yellow Jackets End Season by Breaking Program 54-Hole Record

BOULDER CITY, NEV.- Black Hills State finished ninth place at the RMAC Championships at Boulder Creek Country Club today. However, they broke the program 54-hole record by shooting 1020 (+156) over the three-day event. The Yellow Jackets were once again able to use a strong back nine in order to finish 18 strokes better than their previous best 54-hole score. The score this year was 56 shots better than last year's score at this tournament. The Yellow Jackets were able to end this season on a high note, with the highest score BHSU had to take this weekend, being a 90 and the lowest being a 79.

HOW IT HAPPENED
•    Makaela Swanson ended her stellar freshman season by leading the team again today and finishing first on the team over the 54 holes. She moved up one place today to 38th shooting a 248 (+32) over the weekend. Swanson sits 3rd all-time for a 54-hole score. Swanson shot a 82 (+10) today, with for the second round in a row, shooting a 37 (+1) on the back nine and having two birdies on that side as well. After only paring one hole on the front, she pared five on the back and had two birdies to go along with it.
•    Olivia McCandless finished second on the team today and third on the team overall after shooting a 259 (+43), which put her in a tie for eighth in program history for 54-hole score. She shot 85 (+13) today with a 42 (+6) on the back. She only made one double all day and had six pars. She finished the tournament in 42nd place.
•    Katie Jorgenson finished third on the team today, but second overall and only finished four shots back of Swanson shooting a 252 (+36) over the three days, which puts her seventh place in program history on a 54-hole round. Jorgenson pared the first two holes today and then made seven more the rest of the way. She shot a 41 (+5) on the back nine. She finished in 40th place in the RMAC Championships.
•    Ava Kalanek shot a 90 (+18) today but still finished in fourth on the team and 43rd in the tournament with a 261 (+45). She really struggled on the front nine today, but had an incredible back nine, where she pared the first seven holes on the back side before finishing the round with two bogeys. She shot a 38 (+2) on the back. Kalanek made seven pars today all occurring on the back nine.
•    Leyni Stavola finished fifth on the team after shooting a 267 (+51) over the three days. She shot a 92 (+20) today and ended up in 45th place. Stavola had a very strong 42 (+6) on the front nine, with only one double, four bogeys, and four pars. She made on par on the back as well, but some late doubles hurt her score. She still had a very successful freshman season for the Yellow Jackets.

UP NEXT
This was the end of the season for the Green & Gold. They head into the offseason, where they will lose two Seniors in Cami Langley and Anna Talarico. The rest of the team is very young, and Coach Randy Doran is bringing in three strong freshmen to compete next season. The team made massive strides this year, setting a lot of top ten marks throughout the season and will look to continue that next year.
