BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES
  • The Yellow Jackets enter the Travis Roy Memorial coming off a tenth place finish at the Swan Memorial, where they shot their second lowest 36-hole score in program history with a 655 (+79). They  shot two top ten 18-hole rounds in program history with a 328 (+40), and 327 (+39) on each of the two rounds. The Yellow Jackets will look to continue that success in Sundance on Monday and Tuesday
  • This will be the first time the Yellow Jackets have played at Powderhorn, but for Katie Jorgenson and Shelbi Gardner, this is not a new place as they both played here in high school, when they went to Sheridan High School.
  • BHSU was picked to finish 10th in the RMAC in the RMAC Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll finishing ahead of Adams State and just behind rivals Chadron State and South Dakota Mines.
  • Katie Jorgenson is leading the Yellow Jackets as she heads back home she is coming off a down week for her standards at the Swan Memorial where she shot 172 (+32) with two 86 (+14) 18-hole rounds, this put her in sixth on the team at the tournament, and put her 60th overall. She had 17 pars and one birdie over the two rounds at the Broadlands.
  • Shelbi Gardner is coming off one of the best debuts by a freshman in team history. She shot 77 (+5) on day one, which was tied for the seventh best round in BHSU history and the second best by a freshman. She then finished by shooting 82 (+10) on day two to score a 159 (+15) for a 36-hole score that would put her tied for sixth all time in BHSU history and the best 36-hole score by a freshman in program history. She finished in a tie for 41st and had a career-low nine-hole score of 34 (-2) on the back nine in round one. She had 17 pars and four birdies over the two rounds.
  • Makaela Swanson is coming off a strong first campaign of the season. She finished in a tie for 49th place with a 164 (+20) and had a team-low 79 (+7) in round two. Swanson shot a bogey-free 36 on the front nine on Tuesday which led her to that round. She made 19 pars over the 36-holes and finished fourth on the team.
  • Ava Kalanek had an impressive and consistent 36 holes in Broomfield, Colorado. She shot 163 (+19) with a 80 (+8) on day two. She finished in a tie for 46th and had a 35 (-1) on the front nine in round two of the Swan. Kalanek had 14 pars and four birdies over the rounds with only three holes shooting worse than bogey. She finished third on the team.
  • Leyni Stavola was an individual at the Swan Memorial, but will have a chance to be included in the scoring this week in Sundance after performing incredibly well at the Broadlands. Stavola finished second on the team with a 162 (+18) and finished in a tie for 44th overall. She tied Swanson with a team-low 79 (+7) on day two with no holes worse than bogey. She had 20 pars and one birdie over the tournament and had a 39 (+3) on the front nine in round two.
  • Randy Doran is now in his second season as head coach at BHSU and is looking to continue breaking records and setting new lows.
