BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES
  • The Yellow Jackets enter the Homestake Invite coming off an 11th place finish at the Travis Roy Memorial Invite, where they shot 685 (+109). This was a week after where they shot their second lowest 36-hole score in program history with a 655 (+79). They  shot two top ten 18-hole rounds in program history with a 328 (+40), and 327 (+39) on each of the two rounds. BHSU beat South Dakota Mines in the first round in Sundance and were in the mix with multiple other teams, which bodes well for them as they continue their season.
  • The Yellow Jackets will be playing at home this week at the course they practice daily. In the tournament here last year, BHSU finished fourth with a 681 (+105) over two days that included a 337 (+49) on day one.
  • BHSU was picked to finish 10th in the RMAC in the RMAC Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll finishing ahead of Adams State and just behind rivals Chadron State and South Dakota Mines.
  • Shelbi Gardner is continuing one of the best starts in BHSU history. She led the team with a 165 (+21) over the two days at the Travis Roy Memorial Invite and shot her second round in the 70s this season with a 79 on day one in Sheridan. This came a week after she shot 77 (+5) on day one of the Swan Memorial, which was tied for the seventh best round in BHSU history and the second best by a freshman. She then finished by shooting 82 (+10) on day two to score a 159 (+15) for a 36-hole score that would put her tied for sixth all time in BHSU history and the best 36-hole score by a freshman in program history.
  • Makaela Swanson shot a 169 (+25) at the Travis Roy Memorial Invite this past week that included an 82 (+10) on day two of the tourney. She had a strong finish at the Swan Memorial as well where she finished in a tie for 49th place with a 164 (+20) and had a team-low 79 (+7) in round two. She will now play at home where she had a 170 (+26) last year at this tournament and just missed the top 10.
  • Katie Jorgenson is third for the Yellow Jackets as they head back home she is coming off an okay week at her home course. She shot a 176 (+32) over two days at the Powderhorn Golf Course, where she is the reigning club champion. She finished in a tie for 53rd place and fourth on the team, but did shoot a 85 (+13) on day one of the tournament.
  • Leyni Stavola is coming off a resilient week in Sundance, where Stavola finished third on the team and 52nd overall with a 175 (+31). She had five birdies in the tournament and shot an 87 (+15) on day two. This was a week after she tied her career-low at the Swan Memorial when she shot a 79 on day two.
  • Abbi Beld is back in the lineup after missing last tournament. She will be trying to continue her solid year so far that included an 83 (+11) in the first round of the Swan Memorial before she withdrew on the second day. She was off to a brilliant start shooting a 40 (+4) on the front nine in her only round and still shot a great 18-hole score with only one hole worse than bogey.
  • Savanah Peterson, a freshman walk-on, will be making her Yellow Jacket debut at Spearfish Canyon on Monday. Peterson played her prep career at Sundance Secondary School just down I-90 in Sundance, Wyoming. She was one of the top golfers in the 2A division finishing second in the state tournament her senior year.
