SPEARFISH, S.D.- The Yellow Jackets improved by one stroke over their score in round one to shoot a 347 (+59) on the day today. The Jackets finished in sixth place just ahead of Dickinson State and were able to hold off a late charge from them.
After a rough front nine, the Yellow Jackets put up really good numbers on the back nine to keep them in it. The Yellow Jackets averaged 42.8 on the back nine compared to 46.5 on the front nine.
Katie Jorgenson led the way shooting a team-best 83 (+11), which was the best score by any Jacket over the two days.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katie Jorgenson shot a season best 83 (+11) en route to finishing 18th at the Homestake with a score of 167 (+23). She played her home course incredibly well shooting a 38 (+2) on the back nine. After a double on the first hole, Jorgenson would shoot +5 on the next 13 holes before paring her second to last hole. She had one birdie today on the short par five third hole.
- Abbi Beld tied for second on the team today and finished second on the team overall with a score of 170 (+26) and an 18-hole score of 86 (+14). Which put her in 21st place. After starting round +7 through four, Beld would par six of the next eight holes and then par her last three holes in a row to shoot 43 (+7) on each nine. Beld finished with nine pars.
- Shelbi Gardner was third on the team overall with 174 (+30) but was tied for second on the team today with an 86 (+14). Gardner finished in a tie for 28th and had seven pars in her first 11 holes which helped her shoot a 42 (+6) on the back nine.
- Savanah Peterson improved her career-best score from 95 (+23) to 92 (+20) to finish with a 187 (+43) and sit in 39th in the tournament. The walk-on freshman making her BHSU debut finished fourth on the team today and overall. Peterson really found her groove on the back nine making four pars and shooting a career-low nine-hole score of 42 (+6) on that nine. She also made her first career birdie on hole number three, an uphill par five, which was her second to last hole.
- Makaela Swanson sits in fifth on the team overall with a 189 (+45) after shooting a 97 (+25) today. Swanson pared her first two holes and then made a birdie on hole eight to put her at bogey golf early. She then made four pars on the back nine and shot a 46 (+10) on that nine as well before finishing her round with a par on hole three.
- Leyni Stavola bounced back and improved her first-round score by 12 strokes today. Stavola shot 196 (+52) for the tournament but shot 92 (+20) today to finish in a tie for fourth on the day with Peterson. Stavola made three pars on her first six holes and then made two more and a birdie on the back nine to shoot 46 (+10) on each side. That birdie came on the hard par three of hole 15.

UP NEXT
The Yellow Jackets have a week off next week before they head to Billings for the Yellowjacket Fall Invite, where they had a lot of success last season. It will be the first of two tournaments BHSU will play in Billings this fall.
