Black Hills State University volleyball has been using its free time to give back to the community by participating in the Adopt-a-Park program recently debuted by the City of Spearfish.
Saturday, August 29th was the first major clean up at Salem Park for the volleyball crew, who spent the day doing many tasks to help the park looks its best going into the fall season. Included in the tasks the team worked on were weed picking, cleaning up trash, re-staining picnic tables, staining the border fence and painting bathroom partitions.
Moving forward, the team will have players perform monthly walk-throughs to do simpler tasks such as weed pulling and trash clean up, and plans to do some spring cleaning at the park with another major clean up once winter has passed.
Earlier this summer, the city accepted applications from local organizations to adopt a park to help clean and maintain throughout the year. The BHSU volleyball team applied for and were given the chance to adopt Salem Park, which can be found across the creek from the Joy Center.
