Volleyball Set to Host Mountaineers and Skyhawks

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State volleyball prepares for another pair of home games this upcoming weekend as they'll be hosting the Western Colorado Mountaineers on Friday, Oct. 15, then the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Saturday, Oct. 16.

This weekend will also be Alumni Weekend as we welcome back volleyball alumni who can gain entrance to both matches for free. Please contact Kristin Carmichael to be added to the alumni pass list.

The Yellow Jackets split their home games last weekend, falling to the 19th nationally ranked Colorado Mesa (L, 0-3) on Friday night, then prevailing over the Westminster Griffins (W, 3-1) to secure their first home victory of the season. Against the Griffins, BHSU seemed to catch their footing as they recorded a season high .341 clip as a team. Abigail Renner notched a career-high in kills (17), service aces (2), and total points scored (19) last Saturday, with Madison Hoopman following suit with 15 kills and a pair of digs, recording a .594 clip against Westminster. Senior setter Karly Marx tied her season-high of 54 assists, while Haedyn Rhoades continues to lead the RMAC in digs after putting up 19 against the Griffins.

Yellow Jackets (3-15, 2-8 RMAC) vs. Western Colorado Mountaineers (2-15, 1-9 RMAC)
The Mountaineers are coming off two losses at home against UCCS (L, 0-3) and CSU Pueblo (L, 3-1) last weekend. Their lone conference win of the season came during their first RMAC matchup against South Dakota Mines on Sept. 9 in a 3-2 thriller, which helped them start the season 2-6. Western Colorado, however, dropped their last nine games on the season with a 10-27 set score over their opponents since RMAC play opened. The Mountaineers sit in last place in the RMAC and are looking to upset the Yellow Jackets on their home turf on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

The last time the Mountaineers and the Yellow Jackets met was on Oct. 22, 2021, with Western Colorado defeating the Yellow Jackets 3-1.
