GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. | SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Black Hills State volleyball is set for the final pair of regular season volleyball matches this weekend as they travel to Colorado Mesa on Friday, Nov. 10, and to Westminster on Saturday, Nov. 11.
First serve against the No. 11 CMU Mavericks is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night while Saturday evening's contest against Westminster is set for a 5 p.m. start.
The Yellow Jackets (5-19, 0-12 RMAC) hosted their final home games against Chadron State and Colorado Christian last weekend, falling to the CSC Eagles in straight sets on Friday night before going down in a gritty, four-set battle on Saturday evening against the CCU Cougars.
Despite the struggles in the win column, BHSU still holds strong attacking hitters in
Abigail Renner,
Audrey Brgoch, and
Emily Freeland.
Renner, who is sixth in the RMAC with 302 kills (3.28/set) turned in her tenth double-double of the season during Saturday night's matchup against CCU, recording 14 kills and 19 digs to go along with a .220 attack percentage and a service ace. Renner's 347.5 points on the year ranks her a top-five scorer in the RMAC as well.
Freeland led the team against the Cougars with 15 tabbed kills and a .225 clip, burying two aces and a block assist for 17.5 points.
Audrey Brgoch tied Renner for second with 14 kills, finishing with a .314 clip on 35 swings while tallying the lone BHSU solo block, allowing Brgoch to cash out with 15 points.
Haedyn Rhoades is on pace to finish out the season as the RMAC dig leader, with the senior libero sitting on 436 digs (4.74/set) on the season. Nationally, she is tied for 58
th in the DII scene with her total dig count and 52
nd with her average.
Sitting at 23 service aces on the year, Rhoades only needs four more to tie her career-high of 27, which she recorded during the 2021 season. Historically, Rhoades is tied with Debbie Sigman for fifth all-time at 103 career aces and only needs one more to surpass Sigman.
Hannah Lamon sits ninth in the conference with 730 total assists on the year (7.93/set), which includes 45 that she posted last Saturday against CCU. The senior setter has been the top server for BHSU this season and currently holds 30 service aces (0.33/set) on the year. She only needs a single ace this weekend to tie for 10
th all-time in service aces in a single season, which is currently held by Fehrin Ward. If Lamon can nab two this weekend, she would tie for ninth all-time with Peyton Bodemann, who recorded 32 during the 2019 season.

The Westminster University Griffins (11-13, 6-6 RMAC) currently sit in a tie with Fort Lewis for seventh in the RMAC standings and are one game ahead of Colorado Christian (11-14, 6-7 RMAC). Following their victory over NMHU last Saturday evening, they will ride into Friday night on a four-game winning streak as they set their sights on South Dakota Mines.
Largely improving from an overall 6-20 record last year that only included four conference wins, WU is looking to finish strong in 2023 and nab their first RMAC playoff berth since their reintegration into the RMAC in 2015.
Mailei Myers leads the Griffins and is third in the RMAC with a .363 hitting efficiency as the middle hitter has posted 155 kills on the year. Myers also ranks eighth in the conference in blocks with 84 tallied this season (0.93/set), with her count including 24 solo blocks.
Senior Outside Hitter Olivia Curtis leads the team with 223 kills (2.65/set), combining with 20.0 blocks on the year to head the Griffins with 236.5 points on the year. In last week's matchup against NMHU, Curtis was second on the team with 13 kills and a .379 clip on 29 total attacks.
Breegan Huntsman, the Griffins' five-foot-nine outside hitter, was red hot last week as the sophomore recorded her fifth double-double of the season, which featured 15 kills and 10 digs, pairing with a solo block for 16.0 points in the Griffins' 3-1 victory over the Cowgirls.
Though BHSU dropped the Non-Conference Pod matchup to WU on Oct. 28, the Yellow Jackets still hold the all-time 5-4 record over WU.
