SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University women's soccer team did not shy away from the challenge of facing the nation's top team on Friday night as they secured a point in the RMAC standings with a 1-1 draw against No. 1 Colorado School of Mines. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Makayla Dannelly was kept busy early in the contest by the high-powered Colorado School of Mines offense, having to make three saves within the first 15 minutes of play.
- The Orediggers found the back of the net first in the 34th minute when Kaitlyn Manalili found Bella Campos just in front of the goal on a cross pass, where she then headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 1-0.
- Black Hills State was unphased by the CSM goal when Anacel Valenzuela-Acosta received a long pass off the kick-off, catching Colorado School of Mines on their heels as she found Jayda Hammer cutting directly towards the net as she then placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net for the equalizer just 15 seconds later still in the 34th minute.
- The Yellow Jackets took their final shot on target in the contest when Zoe Evans fired a shot from the top of the box in the closing seconds of the first half, however Allie Lundgren picked up the ball for her lone save of the contest.
- The BHSU defense continued to hold the CSM offense at bay in the second half, limiting them to four shots on goal that resulted in four saves for Dannelly, however the Yellow Jackets stifled their attack late as the Orediggers failed to register a shot in the final seven minutes of action.
- Colorado School of Mines held the advantage in shots (21-4), shots on goal (11-2), and corner kicks (12-0) while Black Hills State held the edge in saves (10-1).
