SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Athletic Department announced on Friday afternoon that head volleyball coach
Bree Davis has resigned from her position following four years with the school.
Â
"We truly appreciate all the time and dedication Bree has given to our volleyball program," stated director of athletics Mark Nore. "She is a wonderful person who always wanted the best for the team and her peers. We wish her nothing but happiness and success in the next chapter of her life."
Â
Davis arrived in Spearfish in June of 2021 and served as an assistant coach for one season before taking on the role of interim head coach in 2022. She was eventually elevated to the full-time head coaching position for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. During her time leading the program she coached the team to their best start in the school's NCAA Division II era in back-to-back years in 2023 and 2024, while also developing five student-athletes who earned All-RMAC honors. Over the course of her time with the Yellow Jackets as an assistant and head coach, her student-athletes also received recognition for their work in the classroom as they earned 24 Academic All-RMAC honors, three First Team Academic All-RMAC selections, three selections for the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, and a pair of CSC Academic All-District nods.
Â
A national search for the next Black Hills State head volleyball coach will begin immediately.
