COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) recognized the top student-athletes in the sport of volleyball on Tuesday afternoon for excelling on the court and in the classroom with the release of the First Team Academic All-RMAC selections as well as the RMAC Academic Honor Roll. Each institution's athletic communications directors nominate student-athletes who academically maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, along with the other criteria for the Academic Honor Roll, for recognition on the First Team Academic All-RMAC in each sport. The league's athletic communications directors for that sport vote to compose the First Team Academic All-RMAC list and select the Academic Player of the Year. They are not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes. While BHSU did not have a first team selection, they did place four on the RMAC Academic Honor Roll which recognized 99 student-athletes around the league, including
Izzy Saiki,
Emma Kruger,
Elena Atkinson, and
Emily Freeland. The RMAC Academic Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport who academically maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, have completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution, and have used a season of competition.
Saiki earned her first career RMAC Academic Honor Roll accolade in 2024. The Thornton, Colorado, native appeared in 16 matches, making three starts and playing in 49 sets as she totaled 52 digs (1.06 digs), six service aces, four assists, and two kills. Additionally, the outside hitter tallied a 1.000 receive percentage on 92 attempts. In the classroom Saiki has accumulated a 4.00 GPA as a Criminal Justice & Psychology major.
While Kruger did not appear in a match during the season for the Yellow Jackets, she earned her first career RMAC Academic Honor Roll selection as in the classroom the Thornton, Colorado, native has accumulated a 3.97 GPA as an Exercise Science & Psychology major.
Atkinson earned her first career RMAC Academic Honor Roll accolade in 2024. The Severance, Colorado, native appeared in 17 matches, making three starts and playing in 55 sets as she totaled 228 assists (4.15 assists per set), 53 digs (0.96 digs per set), nine service aces, six kills, and two blocks. In the classroom Atkinson has accumulated a 3.88 GPA as an Exercise Science major.
Freeland earned her second career RMAC Academic Honor Roll accolade in 2024. The Evanston, Wyoming, native appeared in all 26 matches while making 17 starts and playing in 90 sets as she totaled 143 kills (1.59 kills per set), 122 digs (1.36 digs per set), 35 blocks, 15 assists, and nine service aces. In the classroom Freeland has accumulated a 3.70 GPA as an Exercise Science major.
