HOW IT HAPPENED
- Black Hills State looked to have Westminster on their heels early with their offensive attack as they posted three shots in the first six minutes of play. The first shot of the contest landed on frame as Hailey Warren fired a shot from straightaway 20-yards out in the first minute. Minutes later in the fourth minute Kylie Hayes had a shot go wide left of the goal from 30-yards out, and then in the sixth minute Leah Day fired a shot from straightaway 25-yards out that ricocheted off the top crossbar and out of play as the game remained scoreless.
- The Westminster offense then came to life midway through the frame as they scored three goals in the span of 14 minutes. The first Griffin goal occurred in the ninth minute as Alivia Preston cleaned up a pair of shots that were deflected and saved during a frantic scramble for the ball in front of goal as she fired the shot from 15-yards out and placed it into the top left corner of the net. Ten minutes later in the 19th minute Alex Hoffman took a free kick from just inside the midfield line and fired the ball into the box, which took one bounce over the pack of players and to Kara Dickey who played the ball off the bounce with her left foot as she sent it into the back of the net. Rounding out the trio of goals in the 22nd minute was Necie Gubler who placed the ball into the left side of the net from straightaway 18-yards out off a touch pass from Natalie Cardin.
- After five saves by Makayla Dannelly to slow down the Griffin offense, the Yellow Jacket offensive attack finally cracked the scoreboard as Tea Whitlock scored her first career goal in the 40th minute as she received a cross pass from Jayda Hammer and proceeded to send the ball back across the box and into the left corner of the net over the heads of a defender and Brooklyn Northcutt in goal to cut the deficit to 3-1 entering the break.
- In the second half Westminster had another quick scoring outburst as they netted two more goals in the span of four minutes. In the 51st minute Gubler corralled the ball after the BHSU defense attempted to clear it out, and she proceeded to make a move past a defender and fire it into the right side of the net from 20-yards out for her second goal of the night. Then in the 54th minute the Griffins drew a foul in the box and Natalie Cardin placed the penalty kick into the right corner of the net to make it a 5-1 contest.
- Black Hills State tallied their only three shots on target of the second half in the final 13 minutes of action as Warren notched shots that landed on frame in the 78th and 86th minutes, while Hayes posted a shot on target in the 84th minute.
- Westminster held the advantage in shots (27-10), shots on goal (16-5), and corner kicks (5-1), while Black Hills State held the edge in saves (11-4).
