HOW IT HAPPENED
- In what looked to be a defensive battle early, with only one shot between the two teams in the first 15 minutes, it wasn't until late in the first half that the offense started to click for Black Hills State.
- The lone goal of the match came in the 40th minute as Lena Homan controlled the goal kick from Emma Powell and quickly passed the ball off to Peyton Hill and then Kayla Truong who place the ball in the top-right corner of the net for the game-winner.
- The Yellow Jackets kept the pressure up in the closing minutes of the first half as Kylie Hayes and Truong added two more shots-on-goal, while Whitney Hansen had a shot go off the left woodwork. Additionally, the Green & Gold recorded their final two of seven first half corner kicks.
- As Montana State Billings attempted to swing the momentum in the early stages of the second half, Rian Barthel made a pair of critical saves to keep the shutout alive. First in the 53rd minute she faced a shot attempt from Cianna Sexton that forced her to make a leaping save and punch the ball away and over top of the goal. Then just a few minutes later in the 58th minute, she made a diving save on a shot attempt from Liberty Palmer, and Katy Vinton beat MSUB's Erika Wilson to the ball off the deflection as she knocked it out of play and avoided surrendering a goal.
- Barthel would add three more saves in the final 21 minutes of action to secure her second shutout of the week.
- Black Hills State held the advantage in shots (16-9), shots-on-goal (7-4), and corner kicks (8-7), while Montana State Billings held the edge in saves (6-4).
