HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite Black Hills State out-shooting New Mexico Highlands 5-2 in the first half, it was the Cowgirls that were able to score and take a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. NMHU found the back of the net in the 27th minute as BHSU was unable to clear a long pass, allowing Kate Rayner to steal the ball away and from the top of the box place the ball in the left side of the goal.
- It wasn't until the 68th minute that the Yellow Jackets were able to even the match at one apiece, as Peyton Hill scored her team-leading third goal of the year. Hill received the ball just passed midfield off a pass from Kayla Truong and then proceed to out-run a Cowgirl defender and place the ball into the left side of the net as she drew the keeper over.
- BHSU kept the pressure on and in the 82nd minute, Leah Day capitalized on a penalty kick as she placed the game-winner into the right side of the net. Black Hills State received the penalty kick on a foul drawn by Ainsly Wilson on a throw in attempt into the box.
- Black Hills State held the advantage in shots (13-5), shots-on-goal (7-3), and corner kicks (6-0), while New Mexico Highlands held the edge in saves (5-2).
