Spearfish, S.D. - The Black Hills State University volleyball team recorded their first home win of the season tonight as they took on rival team Jamestown College. The Yellow Jackets ousted the Jimmies in four sets, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-17.
The Yellow Jackets were unable to hold their four point lead midway through the first set but rallied back in sets two through four as they fired on all cylinders. Black Hills surpassed their opponent in digs and blocks, putting on a defensive clinic.
The Yellow Jackets were led by junior middle hitter Kylee Lamb. Lamb's juggernaut performance with 16 kills on 31 attempts with only four errors earned her a .387 hitting percentage. Caitlin Templeton and Amy O'Neill also came out swinging for the Yellow Jackets with 30 combined kills and .296 and .268 hitting percentages respectively. Kelsey Olson was once again the Yellow Jackets defensively with 22 total digs.
"We played our game tonight," said head coach Sally Nichols. "We are turning the corner and its showing on the court. There is nothing like coming out and defeating a rival on our home floor. Now we just need to make it a consistent occurrence."
Black Hills State will return to action tomorrow night against Valley City State. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m. MT.
