COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) announced the 2025 women's volleyball preseason coaches' poll on Tuesday afternoon in addition to the 2025 Preseason All-RMAC Team. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 5-21 (1-13 RMAC) season where they finished 15
th in the conference. In the preseason coaches' poll, the Yellow Jackets are predicted 15
th in the conference as they enter a brand-new era of BHSU volleyball under head coach Grayson DuBose.
DuBose spent the last 22 years at the Division 1 level and spent 14 years as the head coach at Utah State. He is now returning to head coaching after being an assistant at Eastern Washington for the past three years. DuBose has plenty of experience and success, which includes one NCAA Tournament appearance and two WAC Coach of the Year awards (2007, 2012).
DuBose enters his first season as head coach with a pretty veteran team with five of their seven most used players returning. In total, 11 of the 14 players who played for BHSU last season are back. This includes both middle blockers in
Randi Wellhoefer and
Jaeda Davis-Golliher who played and started in all 26 matches last season. The inside duo combined for 278 kills, and 135 blocks, which was 85 percent of the team's blocks last season. They are also retaining
Sydnie Tuioti-Mariner, who was the starting setter last season for BH. Tuioti-Mariner led the team in assists with 653 while also having 215 digs. BHSU's starting libero
Ellie Thomas is also returning after ranking fourth in the RMAC in digs per set last season. She had 437 digs and 4.55 digs per set while playing in every match and leading the team with 27 aces.
The Jackets have four new faces joining the team with three freshman and one transfer coming to the Yellow Jacket sideline. Izzy Abril was one of the top players for Mesa Community College the last two seasons and has helped out in both attacking and the block.
Makayla Dorsey and
Peyton McLeod both come to Spearfish from Fort Collins, Colorado where they played high school at Fossil Ridge, one of the top teams in the state, and club at NORCO, one of the top clubs in the country. Dorsey was a three-year starter who had a .241 hitting percentage in her senior year. McLeod was a major part of the FRHS State Championship run with 53 kills and 13 blocks.
Keira Thompson is a libero who was one of the top ones in the state of Colorado during her senior year. The freshman from Lakewood was an All-Conference player and was named All-State Honorable Mention with 573 digs in her senior season, which was fifth in the state.
The Yellow Jackets will begin their season versus Augustana in Chadron, Nebraska on September 4
th.
