Spearfish, S.D. – Black Hills State University volleyball took on former conference foes Valley City State today at the Donald E. Young Center. The Yellow Jackets came out on top in three straight sets defeating the Viking 25-16, 25-23, and 25-17.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Sophomore setter Darbi Yost ran the offense efficiently with 32 assists. The Yellow Jacket hitters were led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Templeton. Templeton recorded 10 kills on 21 attempts with only three errors. Amy O'Neill also showed up to play as she put on a show with 13 kills on 22 attempts with six errors. The Yellow Jackets also had solid performances defensively from freshman libero Kelsey Olson and sophomore outside hitter Katelynn Gordon who stated 12 and 10 digs respectively.
"This was a great cap to a great weekend," noted head coach Sally Nichols. "We are finally finding our stride out there. Our leaders are stepping up and our team is beginning to hold each other accountable for every play on the court. If we keep this up, we are on track for a strong finish to end the season."
