Black Hills State also held strong defensively against the Beavers with four players with 10 digs or more. Sophomore Kyla Johnson picked up 10 digs alongside sophomore setter Darbi Yost's 13 dig performance. O'Neill also tallied 13 digs to support her stellar hitting figures. The Yellow Jackets were led defensively by freshman libero Kelsey Olson. Olson picked up 20 digs in the contest.
"I thought we showed a lot of character today," said head coach Sally Nichols. "We came out strong, and when things started to go against us, we continued to fight. There were a lot of opportunities where we could have folded under the pressure and we didn't. Instead we continued to fight, dug in, and battled for every point until we came out on top. For that I am really proud of our team."
The Yellow Jackets are back in action again at home on November 2 against rival opponent S.D. School of Mines. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. MT at the Donald E. Young Center.
