earned seven letters as a basketball and football player. In 1966 he was selected to the NAIA All-American second team. As an amateur athlete he played on "Indy" state championship teams in both basketball and baseball. The South Dakota Sports Writers selected Doug as the 1973 Independent Athlete of the Year. He has coached and taught in Faith, Milbank and Lemmon.
