Black Hills State University Athletics

 a three-sport letterman at Spearfish High School, had an extended athletic career at BHSC. He first played football in 1940 at South Dakota Tech and then at BHSC before joining the armed services. He returned to BHSC in the fall of 1945 and played football for the next three years. His first year at BHSC was a war year, therefore not counting against his eligibility. He was elected co-captain of the 1947 football team.
