Judy is regarded as one of the best coaches in South Dakota. She is a ’73 graduate of BHSC. Her playing career led to six varsity letters, four in volleyball and two in softball. Her senior year, she was named National Outstanding College Athlete of America. She began her professional career as a coach and teacher in the Newell School District. In 1979 she became athletic director and women’s basketball coach at Dakota State University. At DSU, she led the Lady Trojans to 10 of 12 South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference championships, including a 35-game winning streak. She was named the SDIC Conference Coach of the Year five times, four consecutively. She was named 1984 Women’s Coach of the Year. Under her direction, the Lady Trojans won 64 percent of their games for an overall record of 176-101.
