 competed in track for two years and football for four years with the Yellow Jackets. In 1974 and 1975, he was named to the SDIC football team as a nose guard on defense. In 1974, the Jackets were rated 11th in the nation and broke the school record for least number of points scored against. In 1975, Dutton was named Honorable Mention NAIA All-District 12 and the Jackets were again rated nationally against the run on defense.
