helped create a Yellow Jacket wrestling program in 1958. Under his direction, his teams won three SDIC championships and never lost a conference dual meet during his eight-year coaching reign. His win-loss record was 48-23-3. Nationally, Schavone was instrumental in helping establish the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Wrestling Coaches Association. He was appointed the NAIA representative on the U.S. Olympic Committee in 1964-65 and was inducted into the NAIA Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1977.
